Will Robert Mueller interview Ivanka Trump, and if so, when?

As he left the White House, Trump told reporters that he would talk to the team of special counsel Robert Mueller – even over the objections of his lawyers – if he could be convinced the Russian Federation probe is not a “witch hunt”.

“I would love to speak”.

Later, while aboard Air Force One en route to Dallas for a speech to the National Rifle Association, Trump teased some more by saying the summit “will be very soon; I have the date; I have the location; it’s all agreed to”.

“Nobody wants to speak more than me”, Trump said from the White House’s South Lawn.

A separate source familiar with the Trump legal team discussions told CNN the President’s lawyers and Mueller are “making a final push” toward a decision on an interview with the special counsel’s office.

Trump’s comments come as he is being newly advised concerning Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election by Rudy Giuliani, the former NY mayor and federal prosecutor.

Cobb’s departure was not unexpected given that he had largely wrapped up his duties of providing documents to Mueller and shepherding aides through voluntary interviews with the special counsel’s team. As Giuliani was going on his media blitz, Mueller’s office filed a request for 70 blank subpoenas in the federal court that is overseeing the case of Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was indicted previous year for money laundering and conspiracy against the United States.

United States v. Nixon, the landmark Supreme Court case that forced President Richard Nixon to comply with a prosecutorial subpoena to turn over the Watergate tapes, is still good law.

In a series of other morning tweets on Friday, Trump knocked NBC News for walking back a report on Thursday that federal agents had placed a wiretap on phone lines associated with Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Trump went on to explain that his lawyers have cautioned against speaking to Mueller, but he said he would override them if he was convinced he’d get a fair hearing.

Earlier this week, Trump condemned the leak of a list of questions Mueller had recently handed the USA leader’s legal team, slamming the disclosure as “disgraceful”. Trump already knows that he’s not a target of a criminal investigation, but even investigatory subjects (the president’s apparent current designation) are still attractive and sometimes necessary actors in a criminal prosecution targeting someone else. Giuliani cited no precedent in support of his firmly stated views, though Hannity at one point referenced Harvard professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz. I would love to go.
