AG Schneiderman Resigns as a Result of Assault Allegations
Other names floated include Rep. Kathleen Rice, a Long Island Democrat and former district attorney who lost to Schneiderman in a primary for attorney general back in 2010; Alphonso David, chief counsel to Gov. Andrew Cuomo; and Queens state Sen.
In the article published late on Monday, the New Yorker reported that four women who said they had had romantic relationships or encounters with Schneiderman said they had been subjected to nonconsensual physical violence.

While Schneiderman’s office publicly admonished and filed a civil rights suit against disgraced film executive Harvey Weinstein for multiple allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against him, both of Schneiderman’s named accusers said they were disturbed that such an allegedly violent private abuser had gained prominence fighting a now-public abuser.

Schneiderman, a Democrat who had been running for re-election, said he would step down at the close of business on Tuesday.
The story quotes the women as alleging that Schneiderman often slapped them hard enough to make their ears ring and, in one woman’s case, make her ear bleed. Schneiderman’s office has taken the lead on dozens of lawsuits and other legal actions against Trump’s climate and other environmental policies – and a variety of other issues, including health care, immigration and abortion rights.
“In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity”, he said.
Vance’s investigation into the allegations against Schneiderman will be complicated.
But on CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday, reporter Ronan Farrow rejected Schneiderman’s claim that the alleged violence was a form of sexual role-play. “I have not assaulted anyone”, Schneiderman said. “Wait and see, worse than Spitzer or Weiner”. “I have never engaged in non-consensual sex”. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of NY said it is investigating the allegations.
“It would be an enormous mistake for the hypocrites in the Trump White House to take any joy in Schneiderman’s fall here, because the work goes on”, Kauffmann said. “Based on this extensive and serious reporting, I do not believe that Eric Schneiderman should continue to serve as attorney general”.

Schneiderman, who has resigned, has implied his conduct was either welcomed by the women, or was not as they described.
Just yesterday, Schneiderman, who was heavily favored to win a third term, had gotten his first Republican challenger: corporate lawyer Manny Alicandro.
