The top two teams Chennai and Hyderabad battle today for 2 points
Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur last night to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive. Moments after the victory, Twitter congratulated the Indian for his “sensational ton”.
It was time Rayudu’s stellar form was rewarded with a hundred this IPL and it finally came, deservedly against the best bowling outfit of the tournament.
Here are some of the tweets.
Chennai batsman Ambati Rayudu has been in scintillating form this season. You just don’t want to be eligible in to the knockout phases, it’s necessary for you to win matches. It was a target that always seemed less, even more, when none of the SRH bowlers could get the better of the opposition.
MS Dhoni (c), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Kanishk Seth, Lungi Ngidi, Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Kshitiz Sharma, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, N Jagadeesan, David Willey.
Shane Watson (52 runs) and Ambati Rayudu (62) have powered the hosts past 100 with their respective fifties.
Bhuvneshwar had another rare poor day in office, after the treatment he got from Delhi Daredevils’ Rishabh Pant, as he leaked 38 runs from his four overs without any success. He batted through the innings.
With 393 runs from 10 innings, Dhoni has rewinded the clock. David Willey was awful with the ball against Rajasthan and Dhoni will consider dropping him in favour of Lungi Ngidi.
Dhoni remained not out on 20 from 14 balls as CSK reached 180 for 2 from 19 overs. However, Chennai’s bowling dept is too weak, and they were failed to defend the total in a previous couple of games. The spin duo was responsible for demolishing the batting line-up of Royal Challengers Bangalore under similar conditions last week. In the second ball of the 16th over, MS Dhoni slapped Shakib Al Hasan straight to long on where Manish Pandey, one of the safest fielders in India, dropped an absolute dolly.
The spinners have been well supported by the pace department led by fit-again Bhuvneshwar Kumar and young Siddarth Kaul.
Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson have been SRH’s batting mainstays with Yousuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hasan chipping in with useful knocks from time to time. Bravo collected his cap, went to deep point, saw the first ball of the next over fly over short third man, but ran hard to his left and took with both hand catches and on both feet a catch that a few other fielders would have put in a dive for. Now his vision is to end the league matches as the table-toppers in the playoffs.
