All 2019 iPhones will reportedly have OLED displays
The news sent shares of Apple’s LCD display suppliers tumbling. With its previous launch iPhone X which debut OLED screen the company is rumoured to transform its line of production by 2019. If there are four, the report notes, then all bets are off. Google Translate provided the below quote, so keep that in mind when reading. Within the coming months, Apple is once again expected to release a trio of new iPhone models – two of which are slated to feature Super Retina OLED displays, while one is expected to retain LCD technology.
Apple recently started planning new iPhone models and decided all three models would have organic light-emitting diode panels, the report said on Monday, citing multiple unnamed industry sources. As per predictions, single SIM Apple iPhone may range from $550 to $650, while the dual-SIM version of the 6.1-inch LCD model may range from $650 to $750. Sharp Corp., another LCD supplier for Apple saw a 4% decline in its shares. Currently, Samsung supplies OLED displays to Apple but the company has been trying to depend on LG Display as a secondary supplier.
A report over the weekend from Bloomberg says that Apple will deliver OLED screens in all of its iPhone models for 2019. Representatives for Sharp, JDI and Apple refused to speak on this matter.
Samsung, LG, and many other manufacturers use OLED for phones today, and there’s no reason for this to decrease in the future.
“Korea’s ET News, citing industry sources, claims 2018 will be the past year Apple introduces a flagship handset with an LCD screen”.
Samsung Display, a sole provider of OLED panels, is expected to see significant earnings improvement. Meanwhile shares in LG Display gained 5 per cent. That changed with the iPhone X when Apple shopped its first OLED screen enabled iPhone, now it appears to be changing even further with next year’s iPhones.
