Xiaomi launches Mi 8: The flagship smartphone of the company
Highlights include scene detection, Animoji-like Mi Meng animated emojis, and Portrait photos with studio lighting.
Xiaomi built its mobile empire with iPhone knockoffs, and it looks the company hasn’t outgrown the habit.
Talking about Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi will skip the Mi 7 moniker and will jump straight to the Mi 8 branding to celebrating company’s 8th anniversary. The SE model features a 5.88-inch OLED screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor.
We’re still parsing all the Mi 8 information, but here’s what we know so far about the new Xiaomi Mi 8 specifications. The bezels are too narrow so that it has the screen-to-body ratio of 88.5%.
In addition, the Amazon India poster also reveals that the upcoming Xiaomi phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and says that it will be “blazing-fast” and deliver “a smooth smartphone experience”. The TV comes with a 4K HDR Ultra HD display and has 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The face detection sensor separate and is not being used for selfies. The Mi 8 may be a blatant clone of the iPhone X, but that doesn’t mean it’s not respectable in its own right. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition also features a transparent back, unlike the Mi 8.
After the booming trend of notch displays and dual camera setups, various mobile manufacturers have been taking “trends” into consideration. Other Android phones have offered infrared-based authentication before, the Vivo X21 being first to come to mind.
While most of the Mi 8 series’ specs were in line with expectation, its premium Explorer Edition impressed fans with a see-through glass back panel.
Separately, any of these features can make a new high-end device pretty attractive compared to what’s already on the market, but, together, they make a strong case for getting the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The rear camera is equipped with a 12MP+5MP combo and a 20MP sensor on the front. It is a dual sim device with dual standby support. To name specific specifications Max Mi 3 Xiaomi founder did not, citing the fact that the company is preparing the fans “a big surprise”, because the new phone they certainly will like.
The Mi 8 SE will be priced at just 1,799 yuan (~S$375.50) and will be available in China on the 8th June.
Numerous smartphones listed in the official MIUI forum post are available in India. Need a little more storage? We can expect the India prices of the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 to remain nearly same as China prices. According to the news, the Mi 8 will cost 2699 yuan, the Explorer edition will start from 3,99 yuan and the SE will cost 1,799 yuan.
