Apple WWDC event will reportedly lack any hardware reveals
What are your hopes for WWDC 2018? The new HomePod puts Apple in contention with Google Home and Amazon Echo on the market.
The conference takes place from Monday the 4th of June to Friday the 8th. Following the same trail of the keynote, WWDC will commence with a keynote at 10 AM PST (6 PM BST). It is the technology used in mobile game Pokemon Go, and by industry, such as factories seeking to map new assembly lines.
Google’s similar initiative – called Android Dashboard – is meant to help take control of your “digital wellbeing”.
Apple could also branch out with more animated emoji – animoji – and pave the way for both Face ID and animoji for future iPads.
This comes right at the time when Apple has faced a lot of criticism for the addictive nature of the iPhone and iOS apps. It will enable iOS apps to run on the Mac and thus, it will offer more room to the users. If you and a friend are facing each other, for example, you’ll see one side of the object and they’ll see the opposite side. These will appear inside the settings of iOS 12, enabling users to see how much time they spend on a device and within apps.
It is assumed that “Digital health” will analyze data on the use of applications and will allow you to set restrictions.
Rising concern about smartphone addiction is less of a threat to Apple than other big tech companies.
It’s a really lovely idea, if you ignore the fact that Google just announced its own software response to smartphone addiction at Google I/O 2018.
Whatever Apple does, the software updates likely won’t be available for a few months. That could include the announcement of ARKit 2 with new support for multiplayer modes in AR-based games. The iPhone SE 2 could launch later in the year with along with the new iPad Pro and MacBooks. This is the function that lets users send money via iMessage to other contacts. Apple planned to launch it in December past year but, it finally came out in early 2018.
Apple will need to show developers why they should keep building apps for a gadget that hasn’t yet shown the same early promise as the iPhone. However, an Apple insider has confirmed that the company will only be making the announcements about the software and the company will not make any announcements regarding the new hardware.
At this year’s WWDC, Apple might focus on software.
We’ll be updating this page with all the latest news from the keynote, so check back for the official news on Monday.
