Palestinian ‘Medical Volunteer’ Killed by Israeli Fire in Gaza
A Palestinian woman was reported to have been killed during a protest yesterday.
“In a blink of an eye she was out of door”.
Mr. Najjar, 44, said his daughter rose before dawn on Friday to eat and pray before the start of the daily, sunrise-to-sunset Ramadan fast.
“She flew like a bird in front of me”. Israeli officials say they have a right to defend the border during Palestinian protests at the fence.
Kuwait presented its draft two weeks ago, initially calling for an global protection mission for the Palestinians, following riots on the Israeli-Gaza border in which Israeli troops killed dozens of protesters.
Israeli snipers fired live rounds and tear gas at the protesters, with condemnation from the United Nations and human rights groups.
Then shots rang out, and Ms. Najjar fell to the ground. The other 14 Security Council members supported the resolution. The bullet deliberately targeted her, it was not a random bullet. It was very hard for us to take a breath. We were trying to get to protesters that were choking on tear gas.
Speaking at Najjar’s funeral, Khaled al-Batsh, one of the protest organisers, called on Gazans to “continue the return marches and break the (Israeli) siege with peaceful tools”.
Fares al-Kidra, a colleague of Najjar, said they were approaching the fence to evacuate a wounded man and, as they were leaving, three gunshots were heard and Najjar fell to the ground. “It’s insane and I’d be ashamed if I was not there for my people”.
Last month, the New York Times interviewed Najjar in Gaza.
“She helped all people”.
He added: “We paramedics go to the protests to rescue injured protesters”.
“Razan was not shooting”, Ibrahim said. “She concentrated on her work in the field as a volunteer medic, which reflected her strength and her determination”. “She gave a lot to her people”.
According to Reuters, Gazan medical officials said at least 100 Palestinians were wounded by army gunfire during Friday’s mass demonstrations, Razan’s was the only registered fatality.
Israeli troops have on numerous occasions been caught on camera brutally killing Palestinians, with online videos going viral and sparking global condemnation.
Her mother, Sabreen, told the Middle East Eye news portal that Israelis “know Razan, they know she is a paramedic, she has been helping treat wounds since March 30”.
The Palestinian Medical Relief Society also demanded “an immediate global response to Israeli humanitarian law violations in Gaza”. “Escalation only costs more lives”. The others suffered from tear-gas related injuries.
This is the largest number of fatalities suffered in one day since the latest round of protests began more than six weeks ago, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced.
Medical workers, dressed in white uniforms, marched in her funeral procession, holding Palestinian flags and photos of her face.
“My angel left this place, she is now in a better place”.
