IOS 12 Might Include Features to Keep You Off Your Phone

Known for being an event where Apple previews its latest device firmware, the WWDC will see Apple announce new features to the iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS which will be first available to developers and testers on beta.

Given that WWDC is a developer conference, it’s become nearly tradition for Apple to unveil a sneak preview of the next version of all of its major software updates. In that same amount of time a user could usually open a wallet and pull out a card. If launched, users will be able to enter an app on their MacBook and pick up from where they left off in the same app on their iPhone.

On top of that, with the many rumours that Apple might be using its own chips – instead of waiting for the Intel chip upgrade cycle – for their computers, macOS might be moving towards a tighter integration with its iOS mobile cousin, or even cross-platform compatibility. It is also expected that Apple will showcase some improvements related to its virtual assistant Siri, Apple News, and the way NFC is used in Apple devices at WWDC 2018. Apple could expand and improve its tracking to give people more information about their diet and sleep habits, Moorhead said.

The report says we’ll also see version 2.0 of Apple’s ARKit augmented reality tools, which will be flawless for multiplayer gaming as it can save and share the location of augmented reality objects and users. Apparently it’ll include a new menu full of tools that will tell you how long you’ve been using your phone, and how much of it has been spent in certain apps.

During last year’s WWDC event, Apple announced its Siri-powered HomePod smart speaker which wasn’t received well by the Apple faithful. This implies that developers will have access to a lot of features after the 2018 WWDC, with more changes coming in iOS 12.

Apple’s Siri, which once was the most advanced voice-based assistant, has slowly but surely seen itself lag behind in the particular segment.

One widely tipped new feature that will excite Apple fans is the possibility of apps that work across iOS and MacOS. In January, two major shareholders wrote a letter to Apple asking the company to add more parental controls and to study the impact of excessive iPhone usage on mental health.

There’s no official word yet, but iOS 11 – the current operating system – runs on all iPhones from the 5S onwards, iPads after the iPad Air and the 6th-gen iPod touch. The same goes for a redesigned iPad Pro family with Face ID built-in. The growth comes as Apple’s top-selling product, the iPhone, hasn’t been selling as briskly as investors had hoped after last fall’s much-anticipated release of the super-premium iPhone X.
