Liveblog: Apple’s WWDC 2018 keynote is on June 4
Along with the new versions of the operating systems that power the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and macOS, it is expected that Apple will also announce several unique software features for its products. Apple used last year’s event to introduce its HomePod speaker to rival Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home. There might be a chance of hardware announcements too. In any case WWDC 2018 is kicking off tomorrow so hopefully we’ll have more details to share then.
The news comes after intense scrutiny over the addictive nature of Apple devices with Apple investors Jana Partners LLC and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System leading the way with damning comments regarding children’s usage of the tech giant’s products.
The initiative, called “Digital Health”, will monitor how much time users spend on devices, but it’s unclear if it will also include tools that help users silence their phones using new gestures or settings, or otherwise disengage from their devices.
Users watching the live-stream on Mac need to make sure that it is running macOS Sierra 10.12 or later. While some developers have taken advantage of this, notably the furniture store Ikea, there haven’t been many notable hit apps using the technology.
On Monday, Apple will hold its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Jose.
Earlier, Messages was rolled out for mobile devices with the iOS 11.4 update.
If it all works out according to Apple’s wishes, one of the best iOS 12 features will likely go unnoticed when the operating system launches this fall.
That said, reports have suggested that Apple might not announce any hardware at this event.
Android P is almost upon us, and we now have a pretty good idea about what new features and UX elements will be shipping with its final build. The firm’s watchOS and tvOS platforms are also due an update of some kind.
But there is some speculation that the Apple iPhone SE 2 might be unveiled.
Here are just some stuff we expect Apple to unveil tomorrow at WWDC 2018, and needless to say, there are many other things the company will talk about. The event tends to be the second biggest Apple get-together of the year, behind its September iPhone launch event.
