Apple aims to curb phone addiction with new wellness features

Today at WWDC 2018 in San Jose, Apple introduced the a completely redesigned App Store for Mac.

– The macOS Mojave now comes with a dark theme. Now, however, things are official.

Another cool feature coming to Mojave: the ability to record video from your desktop. Apple is also taking inspiration from many photos to design look alike emojis. This year, it was inspired by the desert (hence, Mojave, which is a desert).

On the other hand, if you were going into WWDC ’18 expecting mind-blowing and groundbreaking new features, you might have felt that the keynote fell a bit short. For starters, Apple’s protections that check with users before granting app access are extending to the camera and microphone, as well as to sensitive aspects of the file system such as mail, messages, and backups.

Apple said that it was getting serious about security with macOS 10.14, and it looks like it was true to its word.

Apple uses the guidelines to decide which apps can appear in the App Store. This year, Apple used the ceremony to wrap up the first day of the conference, and 10 winners from around the world walked away with an award in hand. “Apple is listening to developers like us and putting a lot of effort into making the Mac App Store better for everyone”. “We are excited to usher in a new era for the Mac App Store with a lovely new look, unique editorial content and emphasis on human curation that complements the ways people are using their Macs today”.

That, for one, seems to fly directly in the face of critics who say that Apple dabbles in planned obsolesce. The Updates tab also exists to list all the apps that need to be updated.

And finally, in terms of apps, Apple is bringing Voice Memos to Mac in Mojave.

The combination of the new Mac App Store and, eventually, iOS apps on macOS is a two-pronged attack on the problem, then. Any new content added to the desktop subsequently will be automatically added to specific stacks.

Apple Inc on Monday issued new review guidelines for its lucrative App Store platform, after it moved to block plans by Steam, the biggest distributor of PC-based video games, to extend its reach into iPhones and iPads. Press the shutter button and your new photo will immediately be inserted into the app you have open on your Mac.

This is because the macOS 10.14 Mojave Developer Preview is available to download and install right now. That is cool. And so is the new Memoji app that will allow iPhone users to create their own virtual avatars. Four Apple-built iOS apps – Home, Apple News, Stocks, Voice Memos – will now work on Mac computers, the company said. But obviously, with subsequent releases of macOS, those warnings will turn into a harsh reality which every developer has to accept.
