IOS 12 could open up Face ID to multiple iPhone X owners
Apple announced a whole slew of new features for iPhone iOS 12 and the Apple Watch OS 5 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday.
The event also included major updates on ARKit, the framework the company released past year to help developers build augmented-reality apps, including a unified AR file format, improved face tracking, and support for app-makers. The new system will work on a range of products that date back to 2013.
“Some apps demand more of our attention than we might realize”, Federighi said.
These slick-looking renders of the new iPhone X, which were created by Muhsin M. Belaal Auckburaully of DBS Designing, are certainly whetting our appetite.
In a direct swipe at Facebook, Federighi explained how “like buttons and share buttons” and comment features can “be used to track you whether you click on them or not”.
Apple has given users and app developers a first look at the new tools coming to its devices later this year.
Apple also announced some other small related features, like setting end times for Do Not Disturb when you leave a location or when event ends, as well as adjusting notification settings for apps right from the Notification Center (without going into the Settings).
While focusing on boosting the efficiency of its operating systems to improve user experience, the technology giant also revealed how it intends to protect users from data risks and promote their “digital wellbeing” by helping them reduce the time they spend on devices and applications.
The new Screen Time feature is one of the most significant add-ons with iOS 12.
Parents can give their children screen time allowances – a specific amount of time they can play a video game or check in with friends on apps such as Snapchat.
Parents will be able to set limits for time their children set in apps and get detailed reports regarding which apps are used.
With iOS 12, Apple is making this process easier and less cumbersome. New animoji will be available on the roster on iPhone X. Generation of custom made emojis, called Memoji, will be added.
Animoji can be created to look similar to users’ real-world appearance, or with a variety of digital accouterments like hats and costumes. Still, you should make sure they’re worth the cost of upgrading. For instance, you might program Siri to pull up a live traffic report and your favorite driving music after saying “Siri, I’m heading home”.
Apps based on Augmented Reality were deemed as one of the most important features of iOS 12. According to Reuters, behind Apple’s decision to allow phone-to-phone sharing of AR data there could be privacy concerns.
The performance boost comes from the way iOS 12 communicates with the chip inside older iPhones. You also have the option of double tapping any tile to bring the person to the front. It’ll also keep tabs on which apps send you notifications. Group Facetime facility has been added in the recent changes to the app.
