Apple Is Finally Allowing Free Trials For Apps
iOS 12 will be available for iPhone 5s and later, iPad Air and iPad Pro models, fifth and sixth generation iPads, iPad mini 2 and later and sixth-generation iPod Touches in September. MacRumors discovered the change in section 3.1.1 of the App Store Review Guidelines, which adds a section stating that non-subscription apps may now offer an explicit free time-based trial period as a zero-dollar in-app purchase. Do Not Disturb will show just the clock time, suppressing the usual flurry of notifications that can pull you in at a glance. Federighi confirmed that, saying there’s likely plenty of interest in porting iOS apps to macOS, and that Apple’s been working on a way to simplify that process – all while maintaining two separate OSes to serve different use cases and device form factors. So many that the company breezed through most announcements and still talked for over two hours.
Screen Time also gives parents the ability to schedule a block of time to limit when their child’s iOS device can’t be used, such as at bedtime.
Parents can choose specific apps like Phone or Books, that will always be available, even during downtime or after a limit is spent. Users can set a scheduled time at which the device essentially locks itself down, restricting access to a handful of apps like Phone, Messages, and FaceTime.
Earlier this week, Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) revealed what’s to come in the latest update, and while nothing terribly earth-shattering was announced, that doesn’t mean we aren’t excited for iOS 12.
iOS 12 finally goes with Android’s approach of grouping notifications by app or sender.
Siri will also suggest that users turn off some notifications if the user hasn’t opened the app in a while.
The short answer to that question is “no”, Federighi said, but the company is building out cross-platform compatibility. 9to5Mac first noticed the update when combing through the iOS 12 beta, where one can find new settings for Face ID that allow users to “Set Up an Alternative Appearance”. There will be more control over notifications so you can manage how they are delivered.
It also features a new design.
