Another chance was wasted, and the season is now just about over.

It would also behoove the Cavs to shoot better from 3-point range, where they’ve connected on just 19 of 64 attempts against the Warriors in two games. In Wednesday night’s Game 3, finished just an hour before, James scored 33 points (in logging a 10th career National Basketball Association finals triple-double), limited Warriors star Steph Curry to just one three-point shot and still Cleveland lost, 110-102. Thus far, the 33-year-old is averaging 34.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in 41.7 minutes per game. J.R. Smith and Kevin Love were big contributors to the early lead with 7 points each.

It’s a notion that later made Durant laugh.

As many have surely already noted, the shot by Durant was nearly exactly the same as the shot he hit in Game 3 in Cleveland last season to help the Warriors take a 3-0 lead. And in the roar, most of the Warriors could do nothing as the Cavs pushed them around down low.

They were asking for trouble.

They got the triple-double from James. That’s what this team does.

So this series is just about finished, or at least, that’s what the history books say.

But they still left the court with shaking heads, staring at a daunting 0-3 series deficit. Not even the most optimistic Cleveland fan could expect that to change in the coming days.

Dallas would have to take on the bad J.R. contract and the not as awful Jordan Clarkson contract, but would get two picks in the lottery this year, which would give them the chance to pair a Bamba/Jackson with a Porter/Bridges (either one).

One of the themes of these NBA Finals has been that LeBron James hasn’t gotten enough help from his teammates.

A bounce here, a couple stops there, the Cavs could be leading. The Philadelphia 76ers have the second-best odds to sign James, in large part because they have salary cap space in addition to multiple star players already on the team.
