Haloti Ngata lands on non-football injury list
The Lions were the last NFL team to begin training camp Monday, but they did it without ex-Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. Only running back Joique Bell, right tackle LaAdrian Waddle and defensive end Jason Jones were placed on the PUP list, indicating that everybody else was ready to hit the practice field. As a result, Ngata can be activated from the NFI list whenever he’s ready to practice, and he will continue to count against the 90-man roster for the time being.
Ngata, acquired by the Lions in a trade when Ndamukong Suh left via free agency this offseason, was put on the active/non-football injury list.
In his final few seasons with the Ravens, Ngata was consistently given some practice days off by coach John Harbaugh to keep Ngata fresh. “We’re just majorly concerned right now with, obviously, getting him healthy, and he’s well on his way to that”.
Whether Bell is in good enough shape to start training camp remains to be seen after offseason concerns boiled up. He was on the field with his teammates but wore a hat instead of a helmet.
Ngata has a minor hamstring damage, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Monday.
