Boston Celtics “Scared” Kyrie Irving Will Join Knicks In 2019
This is mostly just speculation, but the Celtics do have some major decisions to make going forward. How could this happen?
The Rockets took a 3-2 advantage before missing Paul’s services in the next two games. Salary-cap relief could finally come in 2020, but that would essentially be the start of the rebuild – the point at which the Cavs could rid themselves of some of those deals and build around players they’ve drafted while making free-agent signings.
Also, Houston without a legitimate point guard in 2016-2017 won 55 games, with Paul playing in only 58 games almost equalled that win total.
When Irving was sidelined on March 11 with the latest in his long line of knee issues, the Celtics’ playoff hopes appeared dashed. The Cavaliers not only botched the Kyrie Irving trade previous year, but they also failed to trade their coveted Brooklyn pick for a star that would’ve helped LeBron in the Finals.
According to Yahoo’s Chris Mannix, the Boston Celtics are “scared” of the possibility that Kyrie Irving could leave for the Knicks in free agency next summer. Four years, million to J.R. Smith.
Obviously, the Celtics will let Greg Monroe walk, as he was signed using the Disabled Players Exception that the team was granted when Gordon Hayward sustained his injury on opening night. Cleveland went 33-49 before James returned to the organization in 2014. ESPN’s Chris Haynes doesn’t think so.
Has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player four times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013). “Just their will to win is something that’s contagious, and it makes you a better player as an opponent as well”. Will that necessarily be true with Boston and Philadelphia?
Now, the Cavs will have to do a few key things if they want to avoid the brooms. Sure, the odds of James landing in Boston for the next stage of his Hall of Fame career feels like a longshot on the surface. “They go 73-9, and then you add one of the best players that the National Basketball Association has ever seen”.
What we do know from past experience is GM Danny Ainge would trade his own relatives if it meant the Celtics are closer to winning a title. LeBron, Danny and maybe even Tom Brady or Bill Belichick stopping in for support (see Durant visit in the Hamptons two summers ago).
“Oh, absolutely”, James said to reporters Thursday when asked if he wishes the Cavaliers still had Wade, with Golden State leading the championship series 3-0.
