LeBron James free agency: When will Cavs star reveal his decision?
Prior to Friday night’s Game 4 matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, one loyal fan made a decision to show his appreciation for LeBron James’ run to the Finals over the last four seasons. James is one of the games all-time greats and the Cavaliers immediate success is tied to what his decision is.
James says he’s humbled to be chosen for the 20th anniversary cover “of a game I’ve played and loved since I was a little kid”.
James confirmed that he was playing with an injured hand in the press conference following the Cavs embarrassing performance in Game 4. This was minutes after it had been reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers’ star forward suffered a contusion after punching a white board in frustration following the Game 1 overtime defeat.
His next stop is unknown.
James’ impact goes far beyond the hardwood floor, though. Despite LeBron James having one of the best individual seasons in National Basketball Association history, the Cavaliers looked nothing like a team that could win the National Basketball Association title. If a team can acquire one or both of these elite forwards, they would instantly become Finals contenders.
He’s still into hanging banners.
If James chooses to sign with the Warriors, and they keep their current starting lineup, then any championships they win should come with an asterisk on their resumes because the rest of the league would have no chance. I know the right questions to ask certain guys and see if they’re smart enough to actually think the game as well. When he wrote of James’ return four years ago, he reported as fact.
Only Wilt, whose records, statistical marvels, rings, two MVPs and the fervor which those who watched him spoke of his dominance is given consideration for a top-five spot of all-time. LeBron and Paul George could team up to create a new version of the showtime Lakers days. Those are the things we have come to expect as reality, with few teams capable of stopping Golden State’s freight train of dominance. But he lost to the Warriors in the other three Finals, and that’s the team he has to find a way to beat.
The Cavaliers, though, have a lot of work to do to convince him he should hang around.
Cleveland can offer James more money – a five-year, US$209 million contract – than anyone else, but the larger issue is what it can do to improve a roster that’s now short on title-winning performance.
One year and two months from now, he’ll be a freshman.
Plus, let’s face it, James owns Cleveland.
