E3 2018: Microsoft kicks off its press briefing with Halo: Infinite
Earlier today we mentioned that Microsoft’s Xbox E3 briefing was used by CD Projekt Red to share its first Cyberpunk 2077 game trailer. In addition to the Xbox One trailing the PS4 in terms of console sales, very few of the exclusive titles on Xbox One have failed to make much of an impact.
The new game in the Halo series was revealed with a trailer, although sadly no gameplay footage was shown.
Nearly three years after the release of Halo 5: Guardians, Microsoft unveiled an announcement trailer for a new Halo game called Halo Infinite at Xbox’s E3 briefing on Sunday afternoon.
But towards the end of their presentation, Executive President of Gaming Phil Spencer talked about the future of Xbox, and what that might look like. That seems like a stretch, but you never know with this insane games industry of ours.
It brings Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion Games into Microsoft Studios.
This isn’t the first time that Spencer has spoken of such development. And it will set up a new developer called The Initiative, based in Santa Monica, headed by industry veteran Darrell Gallagher, an ex-studio head of Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics.
Developer 343 Industries has revealed more information regarding the development of Halo Infinite, and the Slipspace Engine.
Given AMD now has a strong hold on the console market it’s very likely the new Xbox consoles will be powered by enhanced Radeon graphics beyond Vega.
We’ve contacted Microsoft for comment.
The head of Xbox on Sunday said Microsoft is hard at work on a next-generation console along with a cloud service that would let players stream games to any device. Perhaps even slightly humbled by the lessons it’s had to learn this gen, it’s stacking the deck for the next battle for gamers’ hearts – and it’s a battle it just might win.
