BJP pulls out of alliance with PDP in J&K

“Trust deficit, governance deficit and soft separatism – these were the three main complaints against Mehbooba Mufti when the BJP chose to pull plug on its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir”, said a person familiar with the thinking of the Union government. “Political isolation of this (Jammu) region, which BJP has swept, would result in more serious consequences”, he said. “Forget about us, it seems even Rajnathji was not in the loop”, an official said.
Earlier on Tuesday, BJP national president Amit Shah had called an urgent meeting in Delhi with some of the top leaders of the party and J-K BJP ministers.

When the alliance was forged between then PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the BJP, numerous party’s supporters saw it as a betrayal of its people and backers. “With governor’s rule, the state will not have political representation and only Delhi will take decisions”, Baba said. “We wanted to open up dialogue with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and also that confidence-building measures are taken”.
As many as 744 people died in these three years: 471 terrorists, 201 security forces and 72 civilians, the data show.
Both Mushtaq and Baba said that the PDP was the bigger loser in the crisis.
She also stressed on the need for talks with Pakistan and the Kashmiri people for the resolution of the decades-long conflict.

The BJP gave two main reasons for quitting the alliance: the deteriorating law and order situation in Indian-administered Kashmir, and the lack of development in other parts of the state.
There are fears in the Valley that the BJP may push for a more “muscular” approach to fight militancy. “Reconciliation is the key”, she told The Indian Express.
