House immigration plan would allow families to be detained together

The detention of adults for prosecution as illegal immigrants required them to be separated from children apprehended by Customs and Border Patrol, who by law and by earlier Supreme Court decisions can not be detained in facilities intended for adults. The outcomes were not just predictable, they were inevitable.

The President did not specifically endorse compromise legislation crafted by Republicans in the House or spend much time laying out his directives on what he needs to end his self-created crisis of family separation at the U.S. -Mexico border.
