Tonight Is Cleveland’s Last Shot To Keep LeBron
After making their pick in the 2018 National Basketball Association draft Thursday, the Cavaliers will “continue to have a good dialogue” with LeBron James as he considers whether or not to stay in Cleveland.
James, a native of Akron, played seven years with the Cavaliers after being selected with the first pick of the 2003 draft.
While many seem to think that’s the case, it looks as though for what could be the first time in the last four years, you can take Love’s name out of your Trade Machine trade.
Entering the 2018 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers must operate without knowing the status of LeBron James, who can opt out of his contract before the end of the month. Sexton averaged 19.2 points as a freshman and he addresses the club’s biggest need – a playmaker to fill the void left when the Cavs traded All-Star Kyrie Irving last summer.
And it’s why you see them linked to the likes of Chandler Parsons, whose $49.2 million over the next two years the Memphis Grizzlies are desperately trying to unload.
Love posted impressive numbers in games 1, 2 and 3 of the Finals, with an average of 21 points and 12 rebounds.
With LeBron James’ impending free agency just over a week away, the Cleveland Cavaliers have established a “good dialogue” with their superstar’s camp. It’s not apples to apples, but if you’re about to lose the NBA’s preeminent headliner, maybe you replace him from the young man who just held that role in college.
“I think LeBron has more than earned the right to approach his contracts the way he does”, Altman said Thursday night in an interview with ESPN.
“Anything is possible. People have been saying that for the past four years”.
“I hope”, Altman said. Always wanted to win here.
This year, the Cavs face another unique challenge in the decision-making process: Will we base our draft/pick choice on the current coaching staff or the prospective coaching staff. Carter is better defensively than his Blue Devil partner and could be one of the best defensive players in this entire draft class. Young could maybe sell tickets and generate a little buzz in a way no one else in Thursday’s NBA Draft (7 p.m., ESPN) could.
Cleveland used the pick to draft Sexton – previously owned by Brooklyn – that it received from the Celtics in the Irving trade.
If there’s no good landing spot or flawless landing spot for him then Cleveland maybe turns out by default to be the best place.
