Unsurpsingly, Android M Developer Preview 3 has been delayed
But before unleashing Android M in its final form, release of Developer Preview 3 build of the mobile operating system will be delayed, which originally was expected to arrive middle of July.
There’s a lot of excitement around Android M, and while the software is intended for developers to test their apps on, there are likely a lot of regular folks running the dev preview just to get an early peek at Google’s next big Android update.
Meanwhile, Developer Preview 2 is available for download and can be installed in Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player for Android TV.
However, people have yet to see Developer Preview 3 which, according to reports, has been delayed. So far there have been two releases with the third expected for a release by the end of July.
This is something of a new approach for Google, who used to simply release new code out into the wild without a care in the world, but the company now takes a more nuanced and subtle approach to things. Instead of releasing the update there and then, as Google have done in the past, they decided to do as they did with Android Lollipop; start off with developer previews.
Yibada reported that it is highly possible that the new Android update will come with Nexus 2015 devices.
Kaliciński hinted that the third release of the Android M developer preview will be close to the final build, which will give developers a good idea of how their apps will appear and work on the final Android that will be released.
Reports also point to a new flagship phone from Google, which will reportedly be released at the same date of Android M’s release to showcase exactly what the new platform will be about.
Google did, in fact, suggest they wanted Preview 3 to be a near-final release.
