Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Millennial beats veteran Democrat
“Today, you’ve got well over a hundred million people who are struggling to put food on the table”.
“What I see is that the Democratic Party takes working class communities for granted, they take people of color for granted and they just assume that we’re going to turn out no matter how bland or half-stepping these proposals are”, Ocasio-Cortez said in a recent interview, according to The New York Times.
But on Wednesday afternoon, the party committee approved a proposal to prevent superdelegates from voting on the presidential nominee during the first ballot at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
A map shows her highest concentration of votes in places like Sunnyside and the northern end of Astoria, where young newcomers to the district are clustered.
Ocasio-Cortez, a former organizer for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign, ran on a decidely progressive agenda.
In the primary for NY governor, Cuomo is being challenged on the left by actress Cynthia Nixon, known for her role as Miranda Hobbes in HBO’s “Sex and the City”.
Cuomo and his allies, however, say there’s no comparison between a contest for governor and a low-turnout primary in a Congressional district representing Queens and the Bronx. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., whose platform includes Medicare for all, free college tuition for every student and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She has also expressed solidarity for Puerto Rico, still recovering from Hurricane Maria.
Ocasio-Cortez supporters criticized headlines omitting her name as well as media outlets’ previous coverage – or lack thereof.

You’ll be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

A viral Twitter post noted how less than a year ago Ocasio-Cortez was working in a bar in NY.
“It was clear that no one else was going to do it”, she said.
What did Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez do before her run for Congress? She credits the latter organization with a convincing push for her to become a candidate soon after she returned from protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota.
She raised more small-dollar donations than any other New York City congressional candidate.
On her wish list are lots of things unlikely to pass a Congress held by either Republicans or centrist Democrats.
The race to fill Mr. Crowley’s leadership post will help define the caucus and pit the party’s ideological, geographical and generational camps against one another. “But I think from day one we have had violations of the emoluments clause with the presidency”.
The progressive left just fired a warning shot across the bow of the Democratic Party establishment. “The Trump administration is a threat to everything we stand for here in Queens and the Bronx, and if we don’t win back the House this November, we will lose the nation we love”, Mr Crowley said.
“We are committing human-rights abuses on this border in separating children from their families and that, you know, is part of the structure of the agency”, she said.
