London tourist bus ripped open by tree branch
A tour of London’s finest attractions ground to a halt unexpectedly, when the already partly open-top bus lost its roof after making contact with a tree in Bloomsbury.
The injuries were all reported to be “non-life threatening”. Mr Whelan described the immediate aftermath as “total chaos” and said there was “blood all over the floor”.
Laurence Hopkins from the Universities and Colleges Employers Association told the Guardian: “Glass from the two windows at the front came away and a few debris flew past from the bus”.
Speaking to The Independent, bus operator Golden Tours said: “We are aware about the incident at Russell square and our entire management is on site at the moment”.
Mr Whelan said he was among a group of fellow Canadians who were in the UK for a wedding on Saturday.
The bride was also on the bus and had been taken to hospital.
‘Everyone seems ok right now.’.
The incident happened at Woburn Place outside Toowoomba man George Helon’s hotel.
She said on Twitter: “On a bus heading in opposite direction when looked down the road”.
Witness, Craig Douglas told the Evening Standard: ‘The roof was hanging off even though the branch really did not look big enough to do it.
‘Just the roof hanging off and tree in road. “Roof was full of people”.
Police have cordoned off the road while emergency crews attend the scene.
“Some Londoners could be forgiven for thinking bombs were going off again when they heard the bus colliding with the tree”, he said.
Andy Bassom, transport manager at Golden Tours, said there were about 50 passengers on board when the incident took place.
