Philadelphia 76ers to meet with reps for LeBron James
The chance to play for one of America’s most storied franchises was appealing to James, who prides himself on knowing the game’s history. The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly also had strong interest in the 33-year-old, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in National Basketball Association history.
One thing that remains unclear is how much input LeBron James could have in the decision to replace Julius Randle, should he actually leave the Lakers.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, per his agency, Klutch Sports.
James, 33, has shown little sign of slowing down despite accumulating thousands of regular season and playoff minutes. And in June 2016, they beat the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in a deciding Game 7 to win the NBA Championship.
Multiple reports suggest that after signing James, the Lakers are also eyeing a trade with the San Antonio Spurs for All-Star forward Kawahi Leonard.
While some fans will continue to remain angry toward James for his decision, the steps taken in this instance stand in direct contrast to his controversial departure in 2010.
This is the second time James has departed from Cleveland.
James opted for a four-year, $154 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
ESPN reported James’ agent, Rich Paul, was meeting with 76ers owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer along with coach/acting general manager Brett Brown on Sunday, though James was not expected to be present for the powwow.
James was at his home in Los Angeles when he spoke with Altman. One of general manager Koby Altman’s most critical tasks will be deciding whether to retain or trade Kevin Love, who will make nearly $50 million the next two seasons.
