Paul George Has Committed To Sign With Oklahoma City
Durant, George and Paul were way faster than that. They got Carmelo Anthony to exercise his option.
George confirmed the deal at a party hosted by Russell Westbrook in OKC. However, the King’s shift has provided Oklahoma City a small window of opportunity. George has agreed to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, spurning the longtime rumored favorite Los Angeles Lakers. Maxing out George will push the Thunder far over the luxury-tax line if they re-sign key reserve Jerami Grant.
Paul George is expected to agree to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Day 1 of National Basketball Association free agency was not lacking for fireworks or firepower, led by James’ decision to leave Cleveland for a second time and join the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers never got a chance to present their case when the free-agent negotiating period opened at 9:01 p.m. PT on Saturday.
The only question about George’s new deal was how long it would be for, with most anticipating a two or three-year deal with a player option for the final year.
Rumor: When free agency officially begins on July 1, LeBron James and his representatives won’t be meeting with the Cavs in person.
It’s undoubtedly a prevailing sentiment with fans at least throwing it out like a pie in the sky wish. Russ is not LeBron James, or any of the other stars the Lakers are convinced they will add to their roster.
However, stranger things have happened in the past. Around the league, though, there is skepticism about Oklahoma City’s willingness to go quite to this extreme. Along the way, James’s pitch usually produced swift decisions and tidy outcomes because it was self-evident and airtight: Playing with James guaranteed that you would win a lot, compete for titles every year, and become more famous simply by being in his orbit.
Unless another team surpasses the Thunder this season (which is possible, given where the league’s finances are going) that would easily make Oklahoma City the most expensive team in National Basketball Association history.
Not only do they move off Deng’s awful contract, they also receive a former All-Star who gets buckets.
Twitter user Wayne Cee also sees the possibility.
