Build-A-Bear Workshop closes lines for ‘Pay Your Age Day’

Local authorities are requiring the stores to limit the lines and crowds due to safety concerns.

The company was allowing customers to pay their age for a furry friend on Thursday for their “Pay Your Age” sale.
“The response to our “Pay Your Age Day” event has been overwhelming and unprecedented in our 21-year history”, Build-A-Bear said in a statement.
Hundreds of people lined up outside Park Meadows Mall on Thursday morning trying to get inside the Build-A-Bear Workshop store during its “Pay Your Age Day”.
“However, to be so ill planned that it has to be shut down so early is very disappointing”, wrote another user in a comment on the Build-A-Bear Facebook page.
On Thursday afternoon, Build-A-Bear released a statement admitted they had disappointed guests but “could not have predicted” the deal would be so popular. Some stores were giving away coupons to the people who were turned away when the lines closed.
Dozens of shoppers headed to the Build-A-Bear workshop at the Walden Galleria for the promotion.
One woman said she had gotten to Coral Square Mall at 9 a.m. and was still in the line as of 1:30 p.m. The most any one would pay was $29.
To make up for the flub, Build-A-Bear is distributing vouchers to guests who showed up that can be redeemed for a future purchase.
