Ravens’ Matt Elam suffers biceps injury, expected to miss season
The Ravens are still waiting for full results of an MRI that their 2013 first-round pick either fully or partially tore his biceps, according to the Baltimore Sunday.
A report suggests that Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam will miss the 2015 season after tearing his biceps during a practice session.
After these two disappointing seasons, Elam was called out specifically by Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, who publicly stated that Elam needed to improve his game. Elam led the team with 16 missed tackles last season and was one of the worst safeties in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.
Elam was battling Will Hill for the Ravens’ starting strong safety job. It’s a disappointing turn of events for the third-year safety who came into trianing camp in the best shape of his career and intent on justifying his standing as a first-round pick.
Coach John Harbaugh wasn’t optimistic about safety Matt Elam’s status after he suffered an arm injury over the weekend and it doesn’t look like Harbaugh will be having any pleasant surprises on that front. “He was reaching, the receiver ran by him and kind of reached for him and caught him”. Perhaps his biggest mistake last season, however, was missing a tackle and giving up a touchdown to Danny Amendola in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs against the New England Patriots.
Do the Ravens try and stick with Elam a little longer than expected to prove that they got the right selection in the first round in two years ago? “And then he gets a fluke injury”. He was replaced as the starter 11 games into the 2014 season due to lack of production.
