Trump and Putin’s meeting on front pages around the world today
The US president has again caused confusion over his stance on Russian Federation after appearing to say he believed Moscow was no longer targeting the US.
But at a later news briefing, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the President was saying “no” to answering questions not to the question itself.
Mr Putin said allegations of meddling in the United States election are complete nonsense.
Al Jazeera’s Kimberly Halkett, reporting from the White House, said Trump “was sticking to the script” in his comments on Tuesday – a rare occurrence.
Every US intelligence agency has concluded that Russian Federation did. The President also made headlines after he seemingly sided with Putin regarding Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump’s remarks come days after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said “firm commitments” were made during a meeting between US and North Korea officials at the Demilitarized Zone to discuss the repatriation of American service members’ remains from the Korean War.
“President Trump approaches talks with Russian Federation grounded in realism, but our desire for friendship, cooperation, and peace remain”, read another.

More than 24 hours later, Trump took a stab at damage control, saying he misspoke and that the Russians could have meddled, though he added that “other people” could have as well.

In a follow-up tweet, Mr Trump wrote that Russian Federation has agreed to help in delicate negotiations with North Korea, although he provided no details on how and when that would happen.
Trump’s comments also stunned some pundits on the president’s favorite television channel: Fox News. I blew it yesterday, but I blew it because I didn’t want to insult the guy that I just had a fantastic conversation with, and I think we could accomplish great things together.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called on the president to “walk this back too”.
“Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory”, Sen. “The intelligence community has been quite clear with him and [his director of national intelligence] Dan Coats, as recently as this week after his fumble in Helsinki, made clear it’s a fact”.
