SDCC: Full Trailer For Doctor Who Series Ten Released

The trailer, released during the Doctor Who panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, features our best look to date at Whittaker’s new Doctor and her band of companions.

It feels like a long time since we had some new Doctor Who on our screens. Whittaker read from two scenes that Chibnall sent her. “And she idolises the Doctor”.

But he does hint at “stories during the season where [her gender] does pop up again… there are new challenges for the Doctor”. There is no role I have ever played that has, or will ever, come close to this.

The internet’s had a year to get used to the idea of Whittaker as the Doctor.

Cole then stepped in saying: “That formula’s still there”. It should be the most inclusive show on television.

“Your heroes don’t have to tick the same box”.

Whittaker summed it up, “Like Tosin said, it’s 2018; women shouldn’t be a genre”. “It’s just we’re going on a different journey, in a different direction”, she finished.

Doctor Who has always played a big part at Comic-Con.

The other major news of the day was confirmation that Andrew Lincoln, one of the stars of The Walking Dead, would bow out after the show’s upcoming Season 9, creator Robert Kirkman has confirmed. Rather, these are the Doctor’s ‘friends’. This all indicates a more reciprocal, mutual relationship than the more old-fashioned descriptors “assistants” and ‘companions’. A viral video of a little girl responding to the news reminded her that she didn’t have a TV role model who looked like her when she was young, she said. Gill described Yaz as “completely in awe of the Doctor”.

She also has a few earrings. “The dynamic between these three characters is lovely, and it develops nicely over these 10 episodes”. Perhaps they will show up in season twelve or perhaps Chibnall is intentionally leading us astray. “The whole concept of Doctor Who is anyone can go anywhere”. As such, Chibnall will add his own flair to the show and says now is the time for new fans to jump onboard as there will be “less old stuff returning, more new treats”.

“We seem to be filming 11 episodes, and it’s only a series of 10”, Chibnall teased at the press conference.

“They’re not left out”. “She’s still the character you loved”. But it’s surprising from a design standpoint just how, well, alien this new sonic is.

However, Chibnall was insisted that he’s going to bring forth “a new era, not a clean slate”.

“Hope is Jodie’s Doctor”, he added.

“It’s ten standalone episodes”.

Will there be a Christmas Special?

New does seem to be the operative word.
