Mourinho takes swipe at United’s detractors
Paul Pogba will NOT agitate for a move away from Manchester United this month.
However, with Mourinho having signed a new contract at the beginning of the year, the club will be forced to pay a hefty sum to remove him from the Old Trafford dugout.
Just 26 days after lifting the World Cup with France, the 25-year-old scored an early penalty and dominated the midfield before being replaced after 84 minutes.
It wasn’t particularly entertaining or engaging, but United got the job done.
There were a few nervous moments for United at the end when Vardy pulled a goal back. But I couldn’t make that change, so it was really hard. “I think we are more the head coach than the manager”. Paul [Pogba] was fantastic – his contribution was incredible, but the fuel was disappearing every minute, so we were in trouble and we needed [Scott] McTominay and [Marouane] Fellaini to give me that balance in midfield.
However, Mourinho still has a very talented group of players to work with and we shouldn’t forget they finished second last season but Man Utd will be determined to close the gap after finishing 19 points adrift of champions Man City.
Manchester United finished 19 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season, while bitter rivals Liverpool FC have spent nearly £200m on new signings this summer.
“That’s football managment. I think football is changning and managers should be called head coaches”.
“We played against a team that invest more than us”.
The former Juventus player also indicated that he is ready to stay at United instead of pushing for a move to Spain by saying he wants to win the Premier League. “The list that I gave you before of the injured players is an important list and after training I will speak with that group of players because everyone is different physically and mentally”.
One of Mourinho’s most trusted lieutenants Nemanja Matic will miss the start of the season due to surgery on an abdominal injury, while Eric Bailly and Ander Herrera are also doubts after picking up knocks in United’s final pre-season friendly defeat by Bayern Munich.
“I am very pleased for Luke Shaw”.
“Pogba was a monster”, Mourinho said. I think it will be seen now in the games when we play with Paul, with Fred with Lukaku and with all the rest who are playing.
