Rory McIlroy to test out ankle with practice round at Whistling Straits
Rory McIlroy apparently has a unique way of preparing for the upcoming PGA Championship.
McIlroy has not played since rupturing ligaments in his ankle while playing football last month.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will be back on the course prepping for the season’s final major at Whistling Straits on Saturday, as mentioned by a report from Reuters.
McIlroy won last year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla by a shot over Phil Mickelson. He has since withdrawn from the Scottish Open, The Open and this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
“I’m taking a long term view of this injury and, although rehab is progressing well, I want to come back to tournament play when I feel 100 per cent healthy and 100 per cent competitive”, he said.
There are very few people you’d trust to hit a flop shot right in front of your face, but McIlroy proved he is one of them, as he chipped a ball over one of the Bros for the other one to drive.
The first round of next week’s PGA Championship will take place nearly six weeks after the injury happened.
1 ranking is in jeopardy this week at Firestone, where Jordan Spieth can ascend to the top spot with a victory.
