Outpourings of emotion online in the wake of McCain’s death came nearly immediately, with former President Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and others offering the condolences.
John Kelly, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other staffers reportedly advocated for such a statement, but were over-ruled by the President.
