Arsenal have Mesut Ozil and Lucas Torreira available for Cardiff trip
Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has insisted that he is “very pleased” with his striker, Alexandre Lacazette, after he inspired Arsenal to a 3-2 victory over Cardiff City on Sunday.
The Gunners led twice, through Shkodran Mustafi’s header and a curling effort from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, before Lacazette crashed home the victor on 81 minutes.
More defensive weakness on 70 minutes allowed Ward to head home unmarked off the base of the woodwork after Aubameyang had restored Arsenal’s lead six minutes earlier, bending a superb shot past Etheridge after being teed up well by Lacazette and Mesut Ozil. His assist for the Aubameyang goal was exquisite and Lacazette’s link-up play was excellent all afternoon.
The Bluebirds welcome the Gunners to the Cardiff City Stadium in their first Premier League fixture against one of the so-called “big boys”.
Starting off with a negative, but it’s a tale of Arsenal’s season. Here are our Arsenal player ratings.
Some fans turned on Granit Xhaka after his error nearly cost Arsenal during our thrilling 3-2 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon.
The north London side finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last season.
Warnock will obviously not be happy with his side conceding three goals but he will be impressed by his side’s effort to close down the Arsenal defence, for their battling efforts in midfield and for scoring twice against a talented Arsenal side. The Gunners have had a tough start to the season, losing to Manchester City and Chelsea but beat West Ham last weekend.
Xhaka needlessly gave away possession and Camarasa, the Spanish midfielder on loan from Real Betis, ended Cardiff’s 315-minute wait for a league goal by reacting quicker than Monreal to Joe Bennett’s cross.
Cardiff again bounced back, though, as Jamie Ward dispatched a header with immaculate accuracy.
DF Sokratis Papastathopoulos, 6 – Looked a little more comfortable in Arsenal’s high line but the organisation for the two Cardiff goals was not good enough.
