Trump calls on Sessions to investigate who wrote ‘resistance’ op-ed

Trump has told reporters that Attorney General Jeff Sessions “should be investigating who the author of that piece was because I really believe it’s national security”.

On Twitter, Trump has called the author “gutless” and called for the Times to turn over their contact “for National Security purposes”.

It’s safe to assume that if that op-ed came with a name on, that person would have been fired by dinnertime Wednesday. Then, if Mr Trump disputed their judgment, the matter would go to a vote in the House and Senate, where two-thirds of each chamber would have to vote to remove him.

First lady Melania Trump also blasted the anonymous writer.

The Times’s editorial page department identified the writer as a “senior official in the Trump administration” – a classification that could apply to hundreds of government employees.

The article, written by an anonymous “senior official” in the administration, revealed some of Mr Trump’s own appointees were “working from within” to undermine the President’s agenda.

After The Times published the op-ed, the denials started rolling in.

The author professed to be a member of that same inner circle.

“It’s impossible to know in the moment when a presidency begins to dissolve”.

To set an investigation into motion, the White House counsel’s office would normally contact the Justice Department.

The Justice Department declined to confirm or deny an investigation.

Judge Kavanaugh’s appearance has been notable for his dodging questions on presidential powers, Roe vs. Wade, and whether he would recuse himself from any potential cases involving President Trump.

“Let’s assume it’s a person with a security clearance”.

“I think so”, he told reporters.
