One Plus is developing its First Smart TV! ONEPLUS TV
In announcing the news, chief Pete Lau describes it as “the first step in building a connected human experience”. OnePlus said more than 15,000 people in 26 cities and 11 different countries lined up for it.
We don’t know anything about the actual product, however. The company’s founder Pete Lau said that the current TV is pretty ordinary in terms of use.
Why it’s important: It’s uncertain whether OnePlus’ decision is for innovation or the objective of diversifying its product portfolio for commercial gains; or both.
Smart TV will become the first “not a smartphone” produced by OnePlus.
So, OnePlus TV is coming next year.
It appears that OnePlus is still in the early stages of designing its TV, as no specifications or details or release plans were announced in the post. That again is crucial considering that 4K TVs are fast becoming mainstream and the 8K display has emerged as the new benchmark.
The OnePlus team itself will be choosing what it considers the best entries.
OnePlus has only revealed a couple of details on the hardware side. It’ll also have far-field microphones to answer questions from anywhere in the house. Beyond that, little is known – apart from the vision of a better TV experience.
OnePlus has dedicated much of its time and resources towards developing 5G technology and Artificial Intelligence, both of which will undoubtedly feature prominently in the company’s next line of flagship handsets.
“In my mobile phone, I have my calendar agenda”.
OnePlus says this will be a “premium” TV, but is willing to cut back on pricing just a bit so the company can focus on building a user base, similar to its smartphone strategy.
It’s all about a seamless integration between phone and TV, so that there’s no complication getting content from your phone to your TV.
I don’t know too much about TVs, what goes into designing and making them, but what I do know is this: it’s an incredibly hard market to operate in – many have tried and failed. The OnePlus TV, apparently, will solve these issues. The company has always valued user-centric features and design philosophy, which will again be seen across the new TV division.
This could very well be just another Android TV product, integrating Google Assistant that works with all your smart home devices like any other Android TV product.
“It’s not only to make a TV; we want to explore what OnePlus can do in the smart home industry”. According to the statement, OnePlus will be positioning its TV as a premium model but this will still see it go up against all the big players in the world of TV, including LG, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony.
