Sony Hops on Old School Console Bandwagon With PlayStation Classic
Sony, the company behind the PlayStation gaming console, unveiled a remake of the company’s first console, the PlayStation Classic yesterday.
Sony said the new (old) PlayStation is 45 percent smaller than its parent model.
In case you somehow missed the announcement, Sony’s releasing the PlayStation Classic, a pint-sized PSone console with a bunch of games pre-loaded.
So they’ve announced 5 of 20 games on the way, which means there’s plenty of room for fan speculation about the games that came to define the PS1 era.
Five of the 20 games included have been revealed so far: Final Fantasy VII, Ridge Racer 4, Wild Arms, Tekken 3 and Jumping Flash. The console itself features HDMI output, a USB power port, a reset button to suspend games, a power button, and an open disc tray button to change the virtual disc, all like the original PS1 had. Other than being absolutely ideal for filling those Christmas stockings, 3 December also mirrors the launch day of the PlayStation in Japan some 24 years ago.

We’re already well onboard the PS Classic hype train but what we really, really want is for one of the games to be football-based – preferably FIFA 99.
The SNES Classic is loaded with neat bonus features, including save states, display filters that evoke your classic CRT TV, and a handy rewind feature that lets you turn back the clock when you’re struggling in a hard game. Also, the PlayStation Classic will, bafflingly, not be sold with an AC adaptor.
Pre-order the PlayStation Classic at Walmart, GameStop, or Best Buy today! Like the Sega and Atari mini-consoles, these should be easier to get your hands on than the limited supply NES or SNES classics.
