Brett Kavanaugh: Trump doubts ‘drunk’ sex assault accuser

Christine Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault during a party when they were in high school.

Confirmation of the federal appeals court judge to the lifetime job would cement conservative control of the Supreme Court and advance Trump’s goal of moving the high court and the broader federal judiciary to the right.

In the Fox interview Kavanaugh got a taste of the personal questions he’ll face from senators. Kavanaugh denied he was “at any such party”.

Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky accused Democrats of rushing to convict Kavanaugh and “destroy his good name” with unproven allegations, abandoning any presumption of innocence – a bedrock principle of American jurisprudence. “She admits that there are time lapses”.

The protests came on the same day a letter Ford sent to Republican Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary chairman, was made public.

Kavanaugh, whom Trump picked in July to replace Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy on the bench, was accused earlier in September of forcing himself on Palo Alto University psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford when the two were teenagers.

The committee also on Tuesday tentatively scheduled a vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination for Friday morning. “We have to listen to what she will say on the record, under oath, and what Judge Kavanaugh will say on the record, under oath”.

Yet Kavanaugh’s accounts of his behaviour in high school and college have faced intense scrutiny, with some of his former classmates coming forward to challenge his claims. Roche said Kavanaugh was a “notably heavy drinker” and he recalled his one-time roommate “frequently drinking excessively and becoming incoherently drunk”.

Clune contacted Republican Senate aides this week about his client testifying but the GOP asked for written details from Ramirez about any witnesses or evidence before they speak on the phone.

Ramirez has admitted that she doesn’t remember all the details from the night in question and reportedly said she can’t be absolutely sure it was Kavanaugh who exposed himself to her. “It demeans many, many women who have come forward … to share their stories”.

Schumer added, “Leader McConnell should rethink what he said in the heat of the moment and apologize to Dr. Ford”.

CBN News Chief Political Analyst David Brody says, “It’s striking to see a Supreme Court nominee actually use that word “coordinated” because he’s now invoking politics into the equation and we really haven’t seen something like this in a very long time”.
