Google Assistant is coming to Roku devices
Through October 15, 2018, Roku TV Wireless Speakers will be available for $179.99 on Roku’s site. Additionally, Roku not long ago announced its plans to launch a worthy rival to the preference of Alexa and Google Assistant with its own gadget Roku Entertainment Assistant.
Eight months later, Roku has delayed its plans to launch some of those initiatives this fall. The update also brings Spotify.
There’s also a “lost remote finder” feature, which plays a sound from the remote when you press a button on the Ultra device.
So for now, Roku’s vision looks a lot like it did in 2017.
Roku still has plenty to be happy about at the moment. The Premiere+ will be a Walmart exclusive, going on sale in November.
The app will appear as part of the OS 8.2 update for Roku TVs from today and with OS 9 for Roku streaming boxes from November onwards. Roku has said that it is not making profits selling its hardware.
Even if you’re already rocking a Roku player, the company has news for you.
Alongside the announcement of the new Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+, Roku revealed that it will soon allow users to control the company’s devices though Google Assistant. Use simple voice commands using Roku voice remotes, Roku Touch or the Roku mobile app. Subscriptions not required and premium features available with upgraded services. The Roku Premiere ($39.99 [€33.06] MSRP) and Roku Premiere+ ($49.99 MSRP) offer picture quality in HD, 4K Ultra HD or 4K HDR.
The low $40 price is afforded partly by the use of an infrared remote that lacks a wireless connection with the Premiere, or a microphone for Roku’s voice search feature. Rather than a regular IR controller, you get a WiFi-enabled device with voice control.
Other existing Roku players are sticking around as-is.
Roku has announced an update to their current lineup of streaming sticks and devices, and they’re now aggressively priced as some of the cheapest 4K devices ever.
Roku on Monday added two new members to its streaming media player family with the addition of the Roku Premiere and the Roku Premiere+.
Roku is also improving its top “Ultra” model with new headphones, as it explains below. It doesn’t need a direct line of sight to the box, a power button that can control your TV through HDMI-CEC and comes with a microphone built-in. Up to this point 5:03 p.m. ET Sept. 24, 2018Google looks to originate a huge splash at the 2018 User Electronics Uncover, touting the Google Assistant.
Amazon’s Fire TV is normally listed at $70, but the price has recently been lowered to $40. However, it quickly became clear that, although the form factor is small, these are full-featured streaming devices.
