Make-or-break Senate hearing day for Kavanaugh, accuser

In interviews with the Senate Judiciary Committee, two men have disputed Christine Blasey Ford’s recollection of a sexual assault in 1982, saying they had the alleged encounter with Ford, not Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh, who has denied all allegations, also faces sexual misconduct accusations from two other women.

The hearing will be the first time the country sees and hears from the 51-year-old Ford beyond the grainy photo that has been flashed on television in the 10 days since she came forward with her contention.

After Ford shared her version of the alleged assault, examiners applied three separate numerical scoring systems to the polygraph test results.

She gave details of how information surrounding the incident, including her name and that of Kavanaugh, became public, saying that she “struggled with a awful choice” when trying to decide whether to release her account of events when the press reported Kavanaugh’s confirmation was virtually certain.
