While the Reds still created chances against Sarri’s men – Daniel Sturridge, in particular, enjoying and enduring a busy evening – it was at the other end of the pitch that the notable difference between our starting XI and our “back-ups” lies.

The striker said afterwards: “This one was a nice goal, but it’s more about just getting a result”.

“In a game like this constantly in situations he comes in, that makes you a world class player. Pedro is at three goals [already]”.

So it’s all on Hazard then!

“When you are winning 1-0 and concede a goal at the end you can be sad but I think the draw is the fair result”.

While Sturridge will be delighted with his efficient four-minute cameo, last season’s top scorer Salah was subbed on 66 minutes after missing some good chances.

Head coach Sarri reiterated after the 1-1 draw that he believes Hazard can score 40 goals this season.

But having scored 44 goals in all competitions last season, Salah has a mountain to climb if he is to do that again.

“It’s about being able to unite defence with attack so the distances between those two blocks are not too far and we keep that compact shape so that we can play with the ball on the floor like the manager wants”.
