Venom Movie Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed – And It’s Not Good

The film is a part of Sony Pictures’ efforts to create an extended Spider-Man Universe with the Marvel characters they license – ones not owned by Disney. Only Sony is not quite Marvel when it comes to making comic book movies and it seems they’re not sure what to do with their Marvel character and keep on changing things around. The plot is so silly it might as well be a cartoon, and Tom Hardy certainly treats the material as such, but the film also feels desperate to break out into something much darker.

He is sent by his editor to deliver a puff piece about Silicon Valley tycoon Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), the megalomaniac founder of the Life Foundation, who is surreptitiously carrying out some seriously dodge experiments involving human “hosts” and gelatinous, writhing extraterrestrial alien symbiotes.

Venom will hail from Sony’s Marvel Universe of characters and will not be a spinoff of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, wherein Sony allows Spider-Man to be played by Tom Holland. Here, Eddie Brock exists in a universe without Spider-Man.

“You enjoyed filming them”.

Harrelson himself recently dropped some hints about his likely appearance as Carnage in the possible upcoming Venom sequels. For any new or lapsed fans, these are the comics that will give you everything you need to know. Critics either loved Hardy’s interesting duality with Venom, or they hated it.

The trailer for Venom was uploaded to YouTube on July 31, 2018 and has since amassed more than 44 million views. Whatever humor Tom Hardy summons from his conflicted dynamic with Venom mostly doesn’t land because there is no darkness to offset it. Ruben Fleischer directs with a determined focus on a PG-13 rating-never mind that there is a lot of aforementioned biting off of heads and dispatching of scientists with extraterrestrial battle axes. Based on the Marvel Comics, Scott Haze, Ron Cephas Jones and Reid Scott round out the cast.

The early reviews for Sony’s Venom movie are in – and they’re not that good.

Despite Tom Hardy’s star power and the popularity of the Marvel universe, the film has been receiving very mixed reviews, now holding a 30 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Venom director Ruben Fleischer too added, “Well, I think we can all agree that it would be pretty wonderful to see Spider-Man and Venom face off in a film”.

While the reviews happen to be negative, Venom does appear to be tracking for a decent box office.

Film critic Katie Walsh argued that Venom managed to feel fun despite being messy and freakish.

When asked to describe his favourite scene in the flick, Hardy told ComicsExplained that his best moments were embedded in “30 to 40 minutes” of footage eventually removed from the picture.
