UK mother going blind after drinking 28 Red Bulls per day
Doctors discovered that she was suffering from Idiopathic intracranial hypertension as a result of her weight gain from the fizzy drinks.
A mother is going blind due to her Red Bull habit, which saw her drink 28 cans of the stuff every day.
The paper reports that the woman, who is unemployed, spends more than £450 0f her monthly benefits – which total £1,800, on the sugary fix.
The 26-year-old told how she was unaware of the damage she was doing until she collapsed in June.
She said she had suffered from severe headaches for a number of years but paid little heed to them, instead using simple painkillers to get through the day.
“I used to drink 28 cans of Red Bull in a day and I’d only have a meal at night but it would usually be something fast-food like a takeaway or a packet of pasta”.
After receiving treatment in hospital, Ms Lupari was told she must lose seven stone to keep symptoms of the condition at bay.
“Then my vision went and I couldn’t even lift my head off the bed and I ended up in hospital for six days”. Lupari said that she doesn’t have time to make anything because she takes care of her three young kids, one with special needs.
Lena has now cut out Red Bull from her diet and has since lost an astonishing two stone.
Doctors say that she is overweight due to the calories present in the drink and the swelling is spreading to her optic nerves thus obstructing the vision.
“I think they should offer help to someone with this problem to motivate them into losing weight, something like a boot camp”, she said.
A typical can of Red Bull contains 80mg of caffeine, a stimulant, which raises the heart rate.
