HTC One M9 gets Android 5.1 update tomorrow in Europe
We assume that Android 5.1 will reach HTC One M9 units sold in other regions too at some point in the future, but it’s still unclear when that will happen.
In the first stage of the roll out only a few users are going to get the Android 5.1 update files and if the there are no major bugs reported, then the roll out will continue up until the last One M9 users activates his phone. This update also resolves the recently disclosed “Stagefright” Android security vulnerability.
Mobile OEMs generally provide firmware updates for Android devices only until 18 months after their launch, and owners of the HTC One M8 are under the impression that their handsets would not be eligible to receive the Android M upgrade. We’ll keep an eye out on progress on this one and keep you updated. However, since the Android 5.1 Lollipop update already has been made available through some carriers in the U.S., it may release the Android 5.1.1 for HTC One M9 before the release of Android M. Nothing to attempt to decipher here, Graham is pretty straight forward about the Android 5.1 update hitting EMEA HTC One M9 devices beginning tomorrow.
While this is good news for HTC One M9 users, we hope the device won’t meet the same fate as the Galaxy S6. These things usually take around a couple of weeks to completely rollout, but you will get your Android 5.1 Lollipop goodness before long! Android M will arrive with the Doze feature, which deletes all previously used Bluetooth connections and will fix the Bluetooth connectivity problems in the HTC One M8, as well as extend the handset’s battery life by shutting down all the applications working in the background. Phandroid reported only HTC One M8 Google Play Edition users received the Android 5.1 update in April this year.
