Good Morning Britain studio EVACUATED during live broadcast after fire alarm chaos
Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid were interviewing Emmerdale actors Charley Webb and Anthony Quinlan live, down the line from Yorkshire, when the alarm went off.
When it returned to screens, presenter Jenni Falconer told viewers, “Good morning, very sorry we’re a little bit late…”
They were interviewing Emmerdale actors Charley Webb and Anthony Quinlan live [ITV].
The live feed immediately cut to a pre-recorded 30-year special with Lorraine Kelly and Ben as the alarm went off and the team were forced to rush out of the London studios to safety. I’m going to check we have a little bit of stand by tape to run.
You can hear the automated voice on the alarm saying “Leave immediately by the nearest exit”. “Fire alarm, “pls leave the building” and then 10 secs dead air!”
Susanna Reid tweeted once they were safely back inside the building, joking that the only casualty of the fire was Shephard’s tie, which is missing in the photo. “We did have to evacuate because of a fire alarm but don’t worry it’s all good”.
Shepherd added: “We need to leave, have a good day, we’ll see you tomorrow”.
A security guard outside the ITV building said those who were evacuated were outside for about five minutes but he refused to answer questions about why the alarm went off.
Ever the professionals, the hosts kept smiling despite the furore and told viewers that they were going to have to cut the interview short and vacate the premises. It was an isolated incident which was quickly resolved.
