Sandra Bland Autopsy Results Consistent With Suicide, Say Officials
Kubrin, who studies race and justice, said that the officer’s actions were “out of step” to Bland’s infraction.
Much of the attention in recent days has focused on the emotional and physical state of the woman. One form indicates Bland had suicidal thoughts within the past year, another says that’s not the case.
Pyle also said she heard no signs of a struggle in the cell.
Bland’s family and friends did not agree with the official account – that she hung herself with a plastic trash bag in her jail cell – of what occurred.
The previous item has been updated to correct the TV station that Pyle spoke with.
She would not say if there were other findings.
Jail records show that Bland told a worker she’d attempted suicide in the past. She had also been “very depressed” in the past.
Mr Encinia said that Mr Bland became “combative and uncooperative” during the traffic stop, and that he was forced to handcuff her for his own safety.
Others have taken issue with her mug shot.
Family attorney Cannon Lambert and Bland’s sister Shante Needham said relatives were working to get the money for bail when they learned of Bland’s death.
Also Thursday, the woman’s sister confirmed that Bland had taken prescription medication for seizures in the past. Bland was arrested and taken to the Waller County jail, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of Houston on July 10 and found dead July 13. When she questioned him, he threatened to “light her up” with Taser.
Cooper said the autopsy is just one of the things she and her family hope will provide answers. But authorities opted not to place her on suicide watch during her incarceration.
Twitter has erupted with this conspiracy theory citing suspicious details in the photo.
Yet another question on a later page shows that Bland had never attempted suicide.
On both forms, the question “Are you thinking about killing yourself today”, is marked “no”.
Mr Diepraam says the drug results could be “relevant to her state of mind”. “Everybody has hills and valleys, and we don’t know about any medication that she was taking in regards to … depression”.
Sandra Bland, 28, was found hanged in her jail cell three days after being pulled over for failing to signal a lane change and getting into an argument with a state trooper. Diepramm said there was no evidence of defensive wounds on Bland’s hands, which might be expected if someone had struggled against an attacker.
A questionnaire filled out for Bland when she was booked into the jail states that she told officials she had tried to kill herself by taking pills after losing a baby. “Had this been a violent struggle or a murder you would most likely not expect to see a consistent and uniform mark around her neck”. Diepramm said the cuts were “consistent with self injury”, but he added, “That’s not to say that they are”.
Waller Country prosecutor Warren Diepraam said on Thursday that the autopsy shows consistent injuries with a suicide.
Diepraam said that more test results were expected on Friday which could indicate the approximate time that the 28-year-old took the drug. Family and friends are questioning whether she killed herself.
A dash cam video released by authorities shows the officer being overly aggressive with her when she refused to put out her cigarette and threaten her before yanking her out of the auto and throwing her to the ground. The initial dashcam video of the traffic stop contained multiple glitches which some described as evidence of editing.
Users note the mugshot’s background is the same color as the cell floor, that her hair is falling back and the angle of the photograph all point to the possibility she was already dead when the shot was snapped.
