Thane building collapses; many feared trapped under debris
At least 11 people died and seven others suffered injuries when a three-storeyed residential building collapsed in Thane district of Maharashtra, near here, in the early hours of today.
There are over a dozen people feared to be trapped under the building’s debris. Those injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
The fire brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other agencies are engaged in rescuing the trapped and injured people.
An eye-witness was quoted saying, “Around 2 am, I heard a loud noise”.
This is the second major incident of building collapse within a week after a 40-year-old building crashed in Chole village of Thakurli in Kalyan claiming nine lives.
The fire brigade has rushed to the spot and the rubble is being cleared at the site.
Mumbai: Another building in the Thane district of Mumbai collapsed on Tuesday.
Authorities at the local municipal corporation had reportedly issued notices to the residents to evacuate the 50-year-old dilapidated building. Fifteen families were in the building at the time of the collapse.
