Selfridges open Christmas shop 143 days before Christmas
“Some of these customers return to us year after year, excited at the prospect of discovering the new collections”, James said.
Despite being 144 days before the Christmas day, the department store has opened its “Christmas shop” in their flagship Oxford Street branch in central London.
Selfridges’ Christmas home and decorations buyer Geraldine James said: “Despite the summer weather, we’re in full festive mode here at Selfridges”.
London shopping mecca Selfridges launched its Christmas section yesterday, presumably to build its reputation as the place to go for all things festive and baubly.
For shoppers who like to plan ahead, trends for Christmas 2015 include personalised decorations, black and white monochrome and Magical Forest, which includes wood-based decorations and woodland creatures.
Selfridges announced that its festive theme this year is “journey to the stars” with influences including spirituality, mysticism and magic.
‘So, we have to make sure we’re ready to showcase Christmas decorations they will truly treasure.’.
The shop’s very first customers, Holly and Ken Martin, from Pennsylvania, USA, bought a Christmas 2015 bauble to mark their holiday.
You may be planning on heading out to buy some shorts and t-shirts or maybe some sunglasses, but head to Selfridges and you could be coming away with one of 150 different lights and trees, 120 different types of cracker and ten of thousands of baubles.
While temperatures topped 22C in parts of the capital on Tuesday, shoppers were being urged to visit the West End department store, which has transformed a 3,000 sq-ft space on its fourth floor into an eye-popping winter wonderland full of gifts and decorations.
But for now, it is all hands on deck – especially for the man in charge. Oh I’m afraid not.
