Chevy Volt has 53 Miles Electric Range
“We listened to our customers,” said Andrew Farah, the chief engineer for the 2016 Volt in a statement.
Built in Hamtramck, Michigan, the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt is scheduled to arrive on dealer lots this fall. While this is a positive step because the new Volt will have an increased range, 42MPG is 8 miles shy of the predicted 50-mile range.
When it reaches showrooms late this year, the new Volt will be rated for 53 miles of electric-only range on a full charge – a 39 percent jump over the old model, thanks to new battery designs and a lighter weight.
GM also notes that many first-generation Volt owners easily exceed the EPA range estimate for their vehicles, managing anything from 40 to 50 miles of range per charge depending on driving style and environmental conditions.
General Motors asked what Chevy Volt owners wanted more of, and the overwhelming response was “more range!”.
U.S. regulators rate the 2016 Volt at the equivalent of 106 miles per gallon of gasoline in combined city and highway driving when running on battery power and 42 mpg when using the generator.
The second-generation Chevrolet Volt is shaping up to be a significant improvement over the first with its improved exterior design, less alienating cabin, and – most importantly – the stated improvements to performance and efficiency. In should go on sale a month or two, with a starting sticker of $26,495, with the $7,500 federal tax credit.
As you might know, the 2016 Volt uses an internal combustion petrol engine for the range-extender task. While initial response was excited, it’s yet to be clear whether the Volt will be a sales success or not.
