Acer unveils Windows 10-powered Aspire One Cloudbook to take on Chromebooks
Acer has a couple of new devices up its sleeve. The Cloudbook 11 will only come with either 16GB or 32GB of storage, however the Cloudbook 14 will be available with twice that. 32GB models and “select 64GB SKUs” include 1TB of OneDrive storage and a Office 365 Personal subscription, both also good for one year. “With cloud-enabled services1 such as Microsoft Office 365, OneDrive, and Acer’s Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC), consumers can enjoy the convenience and value the cloud brings with these exciting new products”.
Acer Cloudbook 11-inch model will be available this month and will sell for Dollars 169 and the 14-inch version is coming in September for USD199. The 14-inch model, on the other hand, will release in September and October for North America and Europe, respectively.
You’ll also get Acer’s suite of apps, such as abPhoto, abMusic, abDocs and abFiles for convenient cross-device access to files stored in the cloud. What’s best about these notebooks is the price tag, both come with sub-$200 price tag which should turn out to be quite attractive for students as well.
The Aspire One Cloudbook 11 weighs 1.15kg, while the Aspire One Cloudbook 14 is 1.6kg in weight. (1.6kg). Sporting a mineral gray cover with a dotted textile pattern that provides good tactile feedback, these notebooks offer full-sized HDMI, USB3.0, USB2.0, and SD Card ports to eliminate the need for additional adapters.
As the Cloudbook name suggests, Acer is looking to compensate for the lack of high-end specs by closely integrating these cloud-based services.
Both machines also come with dual digital microphones with enhanced digital signal processing (DSP) so online phone calls and chats with Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant are clear. The notebooks feature 11-inch or 14-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel displays, and are powered by Intel Celeron mobile processors with 2GB of RAM. A full-sized chiclet keyboard and large touchpad supporting Windows 10 gestures provide a comfortable typing and navigation experience.
