Lewis Kerr crash: Injured speedway rider ‘improving’
King’s Lynn Stars’ Kerr crashed riding for his lower-level club Newcastle at the Premier League Fours meeting this afternoon.
Kerr’s wife, Jessie, used her husband’s Twitter account to thank fans for their support – but said there was no update yet on his condition.
He was airlifted from the track in Peterborough to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and the event cancelled.
These are signs that the family, like any family, has clutched on to, hoping that they are positive signs.
Former British Speedway Champion and well-known Sky TV pundit Kelvin Tatum said: “Sending best wishes to Lewis Kerr – let’s all keep our fingers crossed that he is able to make a full recovery from his injuries”.
His family were in the crowd and other riders were left in tears, according to the Eastern Daily Press.
“Thank you to absolutely everybody, the speedway world has been incredible, Lewi will be so gobsmacked xx Jessie”.
Mr Kerr has been on loan to Newcastle Diamonds from King’s Lynn since 2013.
“There was no alternative but to abandon the meeting, said a statement from the British Speedway Promoters Association”.
“The whole speedway community has done what it does best, by rallying around the stricken rider and his family, who have been inundated with messages of support from all over the world”.
“Our information at this stage is that he is in an induced coma and as and when any further updates are available we will issue further bulletins”.

The Peterborough Panthers, who were hosting the meeting, also tweeted: “Thought and prayers of all at Peterborough Speedway with Lewis Kerr”.
